Widening the Lens on Peer Support Events

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world.  Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."   Margaret Mead

On October 28th and 29th, 2008 in Hamilton, ON, our mental health community gathered to listen, learn and rally!

On the 28th, over 100 providers within peer roles and providers keen to learn how to engage peers in meaningful roles within mental health services listened as innovative peer support projects within an Ontario Mental Health Centre, a Canadian Mental Health Association, the Ontario Peer Development Initiative, Boston, Massachusetts and Glasgow, Scotland were described.

The 80 participants who participated in the Peer Support workshop on Day 2 challenged themselves to consider how they could meaningfully involve consumers in their organization.

At the conclusion of the event, Paul Sanderson, A Peer Specialist, led the charge and his gathered list of participant names has formed the beginnings of a Peer Support Alliance.

We have been encouraged to take the show on the road, so that others across the province can Widen their Lens on Peer Support.  Come join us.
